KANSAS CITY, MO – For a consecutive week, the Francis Marion University men's soccer program remains in the top 10 in the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Top 25 poll, checking in at No. 10 on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 6).
The Patriots were featured in the national poll for a third consecutive week. FMU holds a 9-2-1 overall record with a 6-1 mark in conference play, while winning eight of its last nine matches.
Francis Marion will return to the pitch tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 7, for a divisional matchup against the University of Mount Olive, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. The Patriots will also travel to Melbourne, Fla., to face Florida Tech in a non-conference match on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m.
Additionally, the Patriots sit second in the Southeast Region rankings, as Anderson University (S.C.) claims the top spot while Lees-McRae College rounds out the top three.
The Patriots rank eighth in NCAA Division II with 8.17 shots on goal per game, while sitting inside the top 15 nationally in total assists (25), team goals-against average (.667), and shutout percentage (.500).
Individually, junior forward
Jose Coutinho is in a 10-way tie for first in NCAA Division II with four game-winning goals. He also holds the best shot accuracy in the nation (.733). Graduate student goalkeeper
Vicent Sanchis ranks 10th in the country with five shutouts while sitting second in the Conference Carolinas in save percentage (.800) and goals-against average (.700).
