GREENVILLE, SC – For the second time in 2026, Francis Marion University graduate student defender David Guevara has been selected the Conference Carolinas men's soccer Defensive Player of the Week, this time for the week of Sept. 21-27.

A product from Guayaquil, Ecuador, Guevara was the lone Patriot to play all 180 minutes on the backline, as Francis Marion surrendered only one goal and nine total shots during a perfect 2-0 week.

On Wednesday night, he helped the FMU defense limit Barton College to just three total shots with one on frame in a 2-1 win. Over the weekend, he logged all 90 minutes on the backline and held Emmanuel University to six shots (three on goal) in a 1-0 shutout win.

The Patriot defense ranks among the top 20 in NCAA Division II with a .500 shutout percentage and a .700 goals-against average. FMU has delivered five clean sheets in 2026 and are holding opponents to just 3.5 shots on goal per game.

#18-ranked Francis Marion returns to the pitch tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 30, as it travels to Ferrum College for a divisional contest at 4:30 p.m.

Guevara is a member of the MBA program and is a graduate of Unidad Educativa Particular Javier.
