TIGERVILLE, SC – Francis Marion University won the 2025 Conference Carolinas Men's Soccer Developmental championship on Monday evening (Oct, 27). The contest with Young Harris College went to overtime and the Patriots took the contest in penalty kicks, by a 4-3 decision.
Young Harris took a 1-0 lead on a Council Lancaster goal in the 34th minute. The score remained the same until
Emerson Montoya netted the equalizer in the 61st minute for Francis Marion.
The score remained the same at the end of regulation and through both 10-minute overtime periods, sending the championship to penalty kicks. Both teams converted on each of their first two attempts before missing on the third. After two conversions on the fourth attempts, both teams missed their fifth attempts. Young Harris missed its sixth attempt as Patriot goalkeeper Augustin Canales made his third save of the shootout, before
Santiago Jaramillo converted on the sixth attempt for Francis Marion, giving the Patriots the win, 4-3.
Jaramillo of Francis Marion was named the MVP of the tournament.
It is Francis Marion's second developmental title in the three seasons.
