Ian Milla were selected as the Conference Carolinas men's soccer Player and Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 13-19.
A native of A Courna, Spain, Garda totaled five points behind two goals and one assist, including a pair of game-winners in two conference victories. He tallied 12 total shots with six on goal while averaging 83 minutes per match. On Wednesday, Garda netted a goal in the 57th minute and added an assist in a 2-0 victory over Barton. Over the weekend, he scored the game-winning goal at the 68:28 mark in a 2-1 win versus Ferrum.
Garda ranks among the top 10 in the Conference Carolinas in total points (10) and goals (4).
A native of Geiselwind, Germany, Milla collected seven saves and recorded a shutout in two matches last week. On Wednesday, he tallied six saves on six shots faced in 90 minutes of a 2-0 victory over Barton. Milla followed up with one stop on four shots faced while playing 90 minutes in a 2-1 win against Ferrum on Saturday.
Francis Marion is currently on a three-match winning streak and holds a 6-3-3 overall record with a 6-1-2 mark in conference play. The Patriots ranked second in the initial release of the Conference Carolinas KPI rankings, which determines tournament seeding.
FMU will host the University of Mount Olive on Wednesday, Oct. 22, for Pepsi Hot Dog & Drink Night with kickoff set for 7 p.m. The Patriots will travel to Erskine on Saturday, Oct. 25, for a Conference Carolinas contest at 3:30 p.m.
Garda is pursuing a master's degree in business administration and is a product of Dominicos. Milla, a sport management major, is a graduate of Alexander von Humboldt Schule.
