Nicolas Rodriguez enters his first season as an assistant coach with the Francis Marion University men’s soccer program.
Most recently, he served as a personal soccer trainer, while working in the restaurant industry. Rodriguez served two seasons as an assistant coach at Ohio Valley University under head coach Jordan Valentine in 2020-21. The Fighting Scots captured the 2020-21 Great Midwest Spring Championship following an impressive 11-0-1 overall record.
Prior to his coaching career, Rodriguez played at Ohio Valley in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) from 2016-19. The Fighting Scots secured three-straight appearances in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament (2017-19), including reaching the Elite 8 in 2018 after capturing the Midwest Regional Championship. Additionally, Ohio Valley claimed the 2017 G-MAC Tournament Championship following a 3-1 victory over Davis & Elkins. Francis Marion head men’s soccer coach Luis Rincon coached Rodriguez for three seasons at OVU after serving as the head coach at the institution from 2015-18.
As a player, Rodriguez was a three-time consensus All-Midwest Region selection from United Soccer Coaches and D2CCA. He earned G-MAC All-Conference honors four times in his career, including three first-team selections. Rodriguez also ranks among the top 10 all-time in G-MAC history with 70 points, 26 goals, 18 assists, and 75 games played. Rodriguez achieved double-digit victories in all four seasons with Fighting Scots.
Rodriguez earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio Valley in 2020.
