Patriots host tournament matches on Sunday

The Francis Marion University volleyball team has earned the fifth seed for the upcoming Conference Carolinas Volleyball Tournament and will host a pair of matches on Sunday, Nov. 12.

Both matches will be played in the Pearl Moore Basketball Center in downtown Florence.  Admission is free.

Eighth-seed Young Harris College (10-16) will play 11th-seeded Barton College (9-17) at 1 p.m. in the day's opening-round match.  Francis Marion will play the winner at 3:30 p.m. for the right to advance to the quarterfinals in North Charleston Athletic Center in North Charleston, S.C.

FMU ended its regular season with a 15-15 overall record, was 11-6 in conference play, and tied for second in the East Division standings.

The University of Mount Olive (20-10) claimed the top seed in the tournament with a .182 KPI value, while North Greenville University (23-6), the co-Southwest Division champions, claimed the No. 2 seed with a .156 KPI value. Emmanuel University (Ga.), which shared the Southwest title with NGU, is 19-10 overall and earned the third seed with a .155 KPI mark.  
 
UNC Pembroke (18-13), the East Division champions, earned the No. 4 seed and will host two matches on Sunday as well.  The winners of the UNCP and FMU sites will square off in the first quarterfinal in North Charleston on Friday, Nov. 17, at 5 p.m.  The tournament semifinals are set for Saturday, Nov. 18, at 5 and 7:30 p.m., with the title match is slated for Sunday, Nov. 19, at  3 p.m.
