Four Patriots named to volleyball CSC Academic All-District Team

FLORENCE, SC – Four Francis Marion University women's volleyball players – senior libero Katie Floyd, junior outside hitter Madilyn Gartner, senior middleblocker Caroline Lucas, and junior outside hitter Allison Miller have been named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team for the Southeast Region of NCAA Division II. Floyd and Lucas receive the CSC academic honor for a third consecutive year.

The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions: NCAA Division I, II, and III, and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot.

A native of Campbellsville, Ky., Floyd recently graduated with a degree in marketing while holding a 3.732 GPA. She is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and a two-time recipient of the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award. Floyd was named to the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll and Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll for each of her semesters at Francis Marion. She is also a three-time Conference Carolinas Academic All-Conference honoree.

She competed in all 31 contests in 2025 and led the Patriots with 384 total digs while posting a .922 reception percentage. Floyd tallied at least 20 digs in six matches, including a pair of matches with a season-high 26 digs. Additionally, she registered 84 assists and 15 service aces this season.

Gartner hails from Albertville, Minn., and has a perfect 4.00 GPA as a biology major. She received the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award in 2025 and has been named to the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic and Conference Carolinas Presidential honor rolls for each of her semesters at Francis Marion. Gartner has garnered Conference Carolinas Academic All-Conference honors twice in her career. Additionally, she was the 2025 recipient of the Conference Carolinas Elite 26 award.

In 2025, Gartner was an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, the Conference Carolinas Player of the Year, an All-Southeast Region selection by AVCA and D2CCA, and an All-Conference Carolinas First-Team honoree. She led the league in total kills (462), kills per set (4.05), and points per set (4.43), while ranking 17th in hitting percentage (.242). Nationally, Gartner ranks 15th in total kills, 13th in total attacks, 19th in kills per set, 24th in attacks per set, and 29th in points per set. 

Gartner also averaged 1.92 digs per set and 0.43 blocks per set, served 16 aces, and posted a .919 reception percentage. She registered 27 matches with double-figure kills, including four with 20+ kills, to go along with seven double-doubles (kills/digs).

A native of Easley, S.C., Lucas has a 3.693 GPA as a biology major. She is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and a two-time recipient of the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award. Gartner has been named every semester to the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll and FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Achievement Honor Roll. She is also a two-time Conference Carolinas Academic All-Conference honoree.

Lucas was selected as an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention, an AVCA and D2CAA All-Southeast Region First-Team selection, an All-Conference Carolinas First-Team honoree, and was voted to the Conference Carolinas All-Tournament Team. She played in every set this year and led the league in hitting percentage (.377). She ranks fourth in total blocks (96), fifth in blocks per set (0.84), fifth in points per set (3.87), and sixth in kills per set (3.17). She ranks 14th nationally in hitting percentage. Lucas finished her career fifth in program history with 1,179 kills and 13th in career blocks (299) with a .337 career hitting percentage.

A product of El Paso, Texas, Miller has a 3.917 GPA while pursuing a degree in biology. She competed in all 31 matches with 30 starts and led the Patriots with 37 service aces. Miller finished second on the team with 340 total digs while posting a .952 reception percentage. She ranked fourth on the Patriots with 2.58 points per set and 206 total kills in 2025.

These four players helped Francis Marion to a 21-win campaign, including an 18-2 mark in Conference Carolinas play. The Patriots captured the East Division crown and claimed the No. 1 overall seed in the league tournament. 

Floyd graduated from Taylor County High School, while Gartner is a product of St. Michael-Albertville High School. Lucas graduated from Pickens High School, and Miller attended Coronado High School.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
