For the second time this season and the seventh time over the past three seasons, Francis Marion University senior setter
Kaylee Gillespie has been named the Conference Carolinas Volleyball Specialist of the Week, this time for the week of Sept. 25-Oct. 1.Â
The Pickens, S.C., native averaged 12.70 assists and 2.10 digs per set in three matches last week – all Patriot wins. She also recorded four kills with a .211 hitting percentage, five service aces, and one block.
Her week included a career-high 59 assists and 11 digs in 3-1 road win at Chowan University on Sept. 26; 27 assists in 3-0 sweep of Belmont Abbey College on Sept. 29, and 41 assists and three service aces in 3-0 sweep of Converse University on Sept. 30.
Currently third on the Patriot career list for assists, she upped career total to 2,970.
Gillespie is presently second in Conference Carolinas this season with 10.15 assists per set, 14th in digs per set at 3.42, and tied for 15th in service aces per set (0.33).Â
Francis Marion, 9-8 overall and 5-1 in conference action, will play a pair of road contests this week: Friday at 6 p.m. at Augusta University and Saturday at 2 p.m. at Erskine College.
Gillespie is a two-time All-Conference selection and was an Academic All-Conference pick last season.
She is a double major in human resource management and psychology, and is a product of Pickens High School.
