FLORENCE, SC – Freshman outfielder Jon-Mitchell Carter pounded out three hits and sophomore infielder Tanner Wakefield added two hits and three runs batted in, but Francis Marion University dropped the series finale to Young Harris College 24-13, Sunday afternoon (March 1) in Peach Belt Conference baseball action.

FMU, which won the first two games of the series, falls to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in conference play.   Francis Marion will host Newberry College on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in a non-conference contest.

Carter finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Wakefield – who entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the fourth inning – went 2-for-3 with a run scored and the three RBIs.  Sophomore right fielder Will Hardee had two hits, including a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the first.

FMU first baseman Darius Nobles picked up two hits and two RBIs in a reserve appearance, while freshmen outfielder Aleksandr Jergensen registered his first collegiate hit and RBIs and freshman infielder Austin Moore his first collegiate run batted in.  Freshman Jake Benoit added a two-run double.

Junior right-handed pitcher Daniel Twitty (1-2) took the loss.  Seven Patriot relievers also appeared in the contest.

Young Harris reliever McLain Harris (1-1) entered the game in the second frame and pitched 4.1 innings to earn the victory.

Outfielder Logan Worley went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and four RBIs to pace the Mountain Lions (9-5, 3-3), while infielder Jackson Jones, third baseman Brett Hawkins, and center fielder Tucker Greer all had three hits.
