FLORENCE, SC – The 30th-ranked Francis Marion University women defeated USC Aiken 6-3, while the FMU men lost a close 5-4 decision to the Pacers, Thursday afternoon (March 26) in Peach Belt Conference tennis action.
The FMU women improve to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the Peach Belt, while the Patriot men fall to 5-5 and 1-3. Both Francis Marion squads will travel to the Peach State for a pair of conference matches this weekend: at GRU Augusta on Saturday at noon and at Georgia College on Sunday at 11 a.m.
In Thursday's women's match, Francis Marion won the No.1 and No.3 doubles matches to take a 2-1 advantage.
In singles action, the Patriots got wins from sophomore Samantha Koelliker at No.1, freshman Sofia Henning at No.3, junior Christina Graf at No.4, and junior Mona Piller at No.5.
As in the women's match, Francis Marion won two of the three doubles matches to take an early lead. However, the Pacers rallied to win four of the six singles matches.
FMU sophomore Richard Ashforth won in three sets at the No.1 position and senior Gavin Davison won in three sets at the No.3 spot.
