GREENVILLE, SC – Following an eight-point week, Francis Marion University sophomore forward
Matea Bradfield was selected as the Conference Carolinas women's soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the period of Aug. 31-Sept. 6.
A native from Evansville, Indiana, Bradfield had a dominant week, totaling eight points on three goals and two assists, as Francis Marion recorded a 1-1 mark and opened Conference Carolinas play with a win.
Against #8-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne, Bradfield scored in the 12th minute for her third goal of the season to give FMU a two-goal advantage in the first half.
She followed up with a six-point performance (two goals, two assists) in a 6-1 victory at Chowan in the league opener on Saturday evening. Bradfield scored the opening goal at the 13:09 mark before forcing a turnover and collecting an assist on a goal by graduate student forward
Tehya Dave' in the 15th minute. In the second half, she completed her brace after scoring in the 54th minute to increase the lead to 4-0. Bradfield would secure another assist at the 74:20 mark as teammate
Chloe Pfaff also registered a brace.
Bradfield has had a dream to start her career as a Patriot, tallying 12 points on five goals and two assists in the opening three matches. She has also scored in every game this season.
FMU will host nationally ranked Catawba College in a regional non-conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Hartzler Field with kickoff set for 5 p.m. The Patriots will travel to Wingate University on Saturday, Sept. 12, for a non-conference bout at 5 p.m.
Bradfield is a product of F.J. Reitz High School.
