Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bradfield and Pfaff net a brace in league-opening win 6-1

MURFREESBORO, NC – High-volume scoring from the Francis Marion University women's soccer team reigned true in a 6-1 victory over Chowan University on Saturday evening (Sept. 5) at Hawks Field in the Conference Carolinas opener.

The Patriots (2-1, 1-0) put on a dominant display with sophomore forward Matea Bradfield and junior forward Chloe Pfaff scoring two goals. Bradfield continues to thrive as she delivered a six-point performance (2 goals, 2 assists) and has scored in her first three games as a Patriot. With a goal and an assist from graduate student forward Tehya Dave' in tonight's match, she moved to 10th all-time in career points at FMU with 66 (25 goals, 16 assists).

The last time FMU scored six goals in a game was Sept. 20, 2025, at Ferrum in a 6-0 win.

Francis Marion returns to the pitch to host nationally ranked Catawba College on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 5 p.m. in a non-conference battle at Hartzler Field.

From the backline, senior defender Joy Brockmann launched a perfectly placed ball across the field and into the path of Bradfield. The Indiana native capitalized on the opportunity, firing into the upper-left corner of the net in the 14th minute, her fourth goal of the year.

Dave' scored her third goal of 2026 to increase the advantage to 2-0 just one minute later by striking into the low-left corner at the near post, with Bradfield collecting an assist.

In the 40th minute, Pfaff was in the right place at the right time with a perfectly placed header off a pass from freshman forward Ava Grieves that floated over the keeper and dropped into the lower-right portion of the net, 3-0.

Out of the half, sophomore midfielder Georgia-Allen Aaron drew Hawk defenders to the top of the box when she dished it off to Dave'. After breaking free from the Chowan congestion, she dropped it off to Bradfield, who scored in the lower-right in the 54th minute.

After a lengthy inclement weather delay, FMU remained vigilant as Grieves delivered another cross to Pfaff, who took control and scored her second goal of the game at the 74:20 mark.

Chowan (0-3, 0-1) got on the board shortly after in the 77th minute when a give-and-go situation opened CU to a cross that delivered a header into the high-center.

FMU's final goal came in the 86th minute when junior forward Isabella Fregoso made a perfect cutback on a sliding Chowan defender before burying a goal into the left side of the net, 6-1.

Senior goalkeeper Erin Grabeel picked up her second win of the year following two saves on six shots faced in 90 minutes.

Francis Marion held a staggering 32-6 shot advantage with 20 attempts on goal. The Patriots had six total corner kicks in comparison to one corner by the Hawks.
