Matthew Griffiths each shot under par on Sunday (Sept. 13) as Francis Marion University stands 15th in the team standings after the opening round of the JT Poston Invitational hosted by Western Carolina University.
The three-day 54-hole event is being played on the 6,735-yard, par-71 Waynesville Inn & Golf Club course. Second-round tee times will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday.
Lee registered three birdies and 14 pars during his round and stands tied for 20th position on the individual leaderboard, six strokes behind the leader.
Griffiths converted an impressive five birdies and nine pars to tie for 28th overall following 18 holes.
Other Patriot golfers included sophomore
Cade Jordan tied for 82nd after an opening-round 75, sophomore
Carson Jordan tied for 90th (76 score), and freshman
Yu-Hsiang Shih, who sits 99th after carding an 81.
Virgina Tech sits atop the team standings with a score of 12-under, which is one stroke ahead of second-place NC State.
