Magdalena Skachova, sophomore Fatima Hernandez Huerta, and freshman Janka Juhasz all delivered two wins to help pace Francis Marion University to a 7-0 win over Barton College, Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 7) in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action.
Francis Marion (7-8, 6-2) will continue its three-match homestand on the Kassab Courts with a Senior Day match against Ferrum College on Friday at 2 p.m. The Patriots remain the only unbeaten team (5-0) in the East Division.
In doubles play, Skachova and Juhasz were victorious at the No.1 position when an injury forced their opponents to retire in the sixth game. Hernandez Huerta and freshman
Jensen Gibbs followed with a 6-3 win at the No.3 spot to secure the doubles point for FMU.
As singles play commenced, Skachova upped the margin to 2-0 with a straight-sets 7-5, 6-1 win at the No.2 position. She is unbeaten (8-0) against conference opponents this season.
The lead grew to 3-0 when sophomore
Valery Gomez won 6-4, 6-2 at the fourth rung, before freshman
Alyssa Boschin provided the clinching point with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 victory at the No.6 spot.
Francis Marion also got singles wins from sophomore
Lara Lanno (2-6, 6-3, 6-1) at No.2, Hernandez Huerta (6-4, 6-0) at No.5, and Juhasz (7-6 (8-6), 6-4) at No.3.
