FLORENCE, SC – Senior Lian Timmermans delivered the clinching point as Francis Marion University remained unbeaten in East Division play with a 7-0 sweep of a short-handed Ferrum College squad, Friday afternoon (Apr. 10) in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action.
 
Francis Marion evens its overall record at 8-8, improves to 7-2 in the conference, and is 6-0 in the East Division.  The Patriots will play their final home match of the season on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Lees-McRae College.  Admission to the Kassab Courts is free.
 
With only five healthy players, Ferrum had to forfeit the No.3 doubles match.  Freshman Jensen Gibbs and junior Natasha Beader then earned the doubles point with a 6-0 win at the No.2 position.  Junior Magdalena Skachova and freshman Janka Juhasz also won their No.1 doubles match 6-3.
 
The advantage grew to 2-0 when the Panthers forfeited the No.6 singles match.  Freshman Lucia Acuna Montero followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No.3 slot, before Timmermans provided the match-clinching point with straight-sets 6-0, 6-0 win at the No.4 rung.  Timmermans was honored prior to first service on the team's Senior Day.
 
Also winning singles matches for FMU were Skachova (6-4, 6-4) at No.1, Gibbs (6-0, 6-0) at No.5, and sophomore Fatima Hernandez Huerta (4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4)) at No.2.
