FLORENCE, SC – A three-set decision at the No.1 singles position proved to be the pivotal result as Francis Marion University lost a 4-3 match to Lees-McRae College, Saturday afternoon (Apr. 10) in Conference Carolinas women's tennis play.
Francis Marion falls to 8-9 and 7-3 in league play. The Patriots will conclude the regular season with road matches at Barton College on Wednesday and at Chowan University on Saturday.
In doubles play, FMU sophomore Fatima Hernandez Huerta and freshman
Jensen Gibbs won 6-0 at No.3 doubles, but the Bobcats rallied to win the No.1 and No.2 matches to capture the doubles point.
Patriot freshman
Alyssa Boschin was victorious 6-1, 6-1 in the No.6 singles match to even contest at 1-1.
Lees-McRae won a straight-sets result at No.4 singles and a narrow three-set decision at No.2 singles to go ahead 3-1.
Hernandez Huerta brought the Patriots to within 3-2 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No.5 position. However, the Bobcats claimed a 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 6-4 win at top spot to clinch the match.
FMU freshman Janka Juhasz won the remaining match, at the No.3 position, by a 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 score.
