WILSON, NC – In an East Division showdown, Barton College won the first four singles matches to finish en route to a 4-3 win over Francis Marion University, Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 15) in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action.
 
Francis Marion drops to 8-10 overall and 7-4 in conference play.  The two squads are tied for first place in the East Division with identical 6-1 records, with one match left to play for each. 
 
The Patriots will conclude their regular season with a road match at Chowan University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
Doubles play opened with Barton taking a 6-2 decision at the No.3 position.  However, FMU rallied to win the other two contests to take a 1-0 advantage.  Patriot junior Magdalena Skachova and freshman Janka Juhasz won 6-4 at the top spot, while sophomore Fatima Hernandez Huerta and freshman Jensen Gibbs were victorious 7-5 at the second rung.
 
Once singles play commenced, Barton won at the No.4, No.6, No.5, and No.1 positions to take a clinching 4-1 lead.
 
Skachova registered a 7-5, 6-4 win at the second slot, while Juhasz came out on top 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2) in the No.3 match.  Skachova upped her season singles record to a team-best 14-4, including 10-1 against Conference Carolinas opponents.
