Patriot Men beat Trailblazers 4-0 in tournament opener

Box Score SUMTER, SC – Freshman Viktor Viraghalmi contributed a pair of wins as sixth-seeded Francis Marion University defeated seventh-seeded North Greenville University 4-0, Wednesday (Apr. 22) afternoon in an opening-round match at the 2026 Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Tournament.
 
Francis Marion improves its record to 11-9 and advances to face third-seeded Converse University in a quarterfinal match at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning (Apr. 23).  The four-day event is being play at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
 
The Patriots claimed the doubles point and an early 1-0 lead after the duo of sophomore Miguel Maia and Viraghalmi were victorious 6-1 at No.2 doubles and sophomores Diego Vega Espinosa and Adrian Calvo Guerrero won 6-3 at the No.3 rung.
 
FMU freshman Koldo Zuniga opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No.5 position.  Freshman Boris van Ruiten followed with a 6-0, 7-5 win at the No.3 spot, before Viraghalmi provided the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No.4 rung.
 
Maia was with one game of winning at No.1 singles when play was stopped.
