YOUNG HARRIS, GA – Francis Marion University forged a 3-1 lead, but conference-leading Young Harris College captured the final three singles matches to take a 4-3 decision over the Patriots, Saturday afternoon (March 28) in Conference Carolinas women's tennis play.
Francis Marion (5-7, 4-2) will play at the University of Mount Olive on Wednesday at 2 p.m., before returning home to host Augusta University on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
Despite a 6-4 doubles win by sophomores
Lara Lanno and
Valery Gomez at the No.2 position, Young Harris (10-4, 6-0) won the other two matches to take the doubles point and a 1-0 advantage.
FMU junior
Magdalena Skachova evened the match at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No.2 singles. Lanno was victorious at the top spot by a narrow 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 result and freshman Janka Juhasz earned a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victory at the No.3 position to give the Patriots a 3-1 lead.
However, the Mountain Lions rallied with wins in the final three singles matches, including a three-set result at the final singles match to finish, the No.6 spot.
