Patriots post second-straight road win

Box Score ROME, GA – Francis Marion University received two wins each from sophomores Miguel Maia and Diego Vega Espinosa and freshman Viktor Viraghalmi to post a 7-0 road victory over Shorter University, Friday afternoon (March 27) in Conference Carolinas men's tennis play.
 
Francis Marion ups its overall record to 5-7 and goes to 3-2 in league play.  The Patriots will play at Young Harris College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
Vega Espinosa and sophomore Adrian Calvo Guerrero opened doubles play with a 6-2 win at the No.3 position, before Maia and Viraghalmi claimed the doubles point for FMU with a 6-3 victory at the No.2 spot.
 
The singles matches were finished in order from top to bottom.  Maia won at No.1 by a 6-2, 6-2 score and freshman Boris van Ruiten posted a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) win at No.2.  Viraghalmi registered the clinching point with a 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (9-7) victory at No.3 singles.
 
Junior Alexander Mirkov recorded a 6-2, 6-2 decision at the No.4 position, while Vega Espinosa won 6-1, 6-1 at No.5, and freshman Koldo Zuniga came out on top 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) at the No.6 position.
