FERRUM, VA – After dropping the doubles point, Francis Marion University rallied to win all six singles matches en route to a 6-1 road victory over Ferrum College, Saturday (March 21) in Conference Carolinas men's tennis action.
Francis Marion improves to 4-7 overall and evens its conference mark at 2-2. The Patriots will play at Shorter University on Friday at 1 p.m. and at Young Harris College on March 28 at 2 p.m.
FMU sophomores
Adrian Calvo Guerrero and
Diego Vega Espinosa earned a 6-1 win at No.3 doubles, but the Panthers then took a 6-3 decision at No.2 and a 7-6 (7-5) victory at the top spot to earn the doubles point.
Patriot freshman
Koldo Zuniga got FMU on the board with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No.5 singles. Junior
Alexander Mirkov followed with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at the No.3 position to put the Patriots up 2-1.
FMU freshman
Boris van Ruiten was victorious at No.1 singles 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 and freshman Viktor Viraghalmi provided the clinching point with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the second rung.
The two other Francis Marion points came from senior
Niklas Plath (6-0, 6-1) at No. singles and Vega Espinosa (6-3, 2-6, 1-0 [10-7]) at the No.4 spot.
