FLORENCE, SC – Sophomore Lara Lanno contributed to the doubles point and then earned the clinching singles victory to help Francis Marion University to a 6-1 win over West Virginia Wesleyan College, Monday afternoon (March 2) in non-conference women's tennis action.
 
Francis Marion (1-3) will play at Coker University on Thursday at 1 p.m., before returning home to entertain Augusta University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Lanno and freshman Alyssa Boschin claimed a 6-4 win at No.3 doubles, and sophomore Fatima Hernandez Huerta and freshman Jensen Gibbs were victorious at the No.2 doubles position by a 7-5 decision to claim the doubles point and put FMU up 1-0.
 
Patriot junior Magdalena Skachova led off singles play with a straight-sets 6-4, 6-1 win at the No.2 slot to up the advantage to 2-0.  West Virginia Wesleyan (6-3) posted its one point with a straight-sets victory at No.3 singles to draw within 2-1.
 
FMU sophomore Valery Gomez won 6-4, 6-2 at the No.4 position, before Lanno registered her clinching win in comeback fashion 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 at the top spot.
 
Hernandez Huerta won 6-1, 6-1 at No.5 singles and Boschin was victorious 6-1, 6-1 at the No.6 slot to account for the other Francis Marion points.
