FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University held a 3-1 advantage, but Belmont Abbey College won the final three singles matches to claim a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Patriots, Friday afternoon (Match 13) in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action.
 
Francis Marion (1-5, 0-1) will quickly return to the Kassab Courts to host Chowan University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
Belmont Abbey (6-4, 1-0) earned the doubles point, despite FMU getting a 7-5 win at the top position by junior Magdalena Skachova and freshman Janka Juhasz.
 
However, Francis Marion won the first three singles matches to finish to surge ahead 3-1.  Sophomore Lara Lanno won 6-0, 6-4 at the top spot, while Skachova was victorious 6-3, 6-4 at No.2 singles and freshman Lucia Acuna Montero won 7-5, 6-4 at the No.6 spot.
 
The Crusaders won in straight sets at the fifth position and claimed a marathon 6-7 (1-7), 6-4, 7-5 decision at No.4 singles.  The match was then decided when Belmont Abbey registered a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory at No.3 singles.
