FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University captured the doubles point and then won the first three singles matches to finish en route to a 4-3 victory over local-rival Coker University, Saturday morning (Feb. 15) in non-conference women's tennis play.
 
Francis Marion (1-2) earns its first win for first-year head coach Laszlo Leiter.  The Patriots will play at Limestone University on Feb. 25 at 1 p.m.
 
In doubles play, Patriot freshman Maia Warlies and senior Kim Venghaus were victorious 6-3 at the No.3 position and freshmen Lara Lanno and Valery Gomez won at the top spot 6-4 to give FMU a 1-0 lead.
 
Senior Sophia Hansen upped the margin to 2-0 with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No.3 singles.  Lanno followed with a 7-5, 7-5 victory at the No.2 position and Gomez provided the clinching point with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 decision at No.4 singles.
