For the second consecutive week and the third time this season, Francis Marion University junior outside hitter
Madilyn Gartner has been named the Conference Carolinas women's volleyball Player of the Week, this time for the week of Oct. 20-26.
A native of Albertville, Minn., Gartner played in all nine sets of a trio of FMU sweeps this past week, and averaged 5.22 kills, 1.67 digs, 0.89 blocks, and 5.78 points per set, while hitting .336. She also recorded one service ace.
During the week, she registered 16 kills, six blocks, and six digs with a .317 hitting percentage in a sweep of Augusta University; 13 kills, two blocks, and five digs with a .278 hitting percentage in a road sweep at Shorter University; and 18 kills and four digs with a .417 hitting percentage in a road sweep at Young Harris College.
Gartner helped run the team's winning streak to six matches and to a conference-best 13-1 league mark. She leads Conference Carolinas with 3.95 kills per set, and ranks second in points per set (4.27) and 20th in hitting percentage at .232.
Francis Marion, now 16-8 overall, will host Barton College on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before traveling to Ferrum College in Virginia for a 1 p.m. first serve on Saturday (Nov. 1).
Gartner is majoring in biology and is a product of St. Michael-Albertville High School.
