Brockmann selected Defensive Player of the Week

FLORENCE, SC – Following two clean sheet victories in league competition, Francis Marion University junior defender Joy Brockmann was named the Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 13-19. It is the second time this season, she has earned the defensive award.

A native of Bernau, Germany, Brockmann started both matches on the backline while playing 126 minutes for the Patriots. On Wednesday, she competed for the full 90 minutes while netting a penalty kick goal in the 89th minute to seal a 2-0 victory over Barton and limited the Bulldogs to 1 shot (zero on goal). Over the weekend, Brockmann played 36 minutes on defense in a 3-0 victory over Ferrum, while holding the Panthers to only 7 shots (2 on goal).

Brockmann and the Patriots improved their record to 12-0 overall, the best start in program history. Francis Marion extended its school record shutout streak to 914:15 scoreless minutes while recording 11 shutouts. As a team, Francis Marion ranks second in the country in shutout percentage (.917) and goals-against average (.167). FMU moved up to 17th in last week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll, and the Patriots are one of only two unbeaten and untied teams left in NCAA Division II women's soccer.

FMU will host the University of Mount Olive on Wednesday, Oct. 22, in a Conference Carolinas divisional matchup at Hartzler Field for Pepsi Hot Dog & Drink Night, with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m.
