Kristina Syragakis scored both goals for Francis Marion University in a 2-1 road victory over Chowan University on Saturday (Sept. 21) afternoon for the Patriots' second conference win of the season.
Francis Marion (2-1-2, 2-0-1) continues conference action on Wednesday (Sept. 25) afternoon as they host Barton College. Kick-off will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Hartzler Field.
Including 13 shots on frame, the Patriots outshot the Hawks 19-5. Syragakis led with six shots and senior forward
Ashley Jordan followed with four shots of her own.
FMU's first goal came just 2:18 minutes into the first half as sophomore defender
Joy Brockmann served a ball directly in front of Syragakis. With enough space around her defender, Syragakis took the shot from five yards out and earned the Patriots their first goal as it landed in the top-left corner of the goal.
Francis Marion held the 1-0 lead for the remainder of the first half and well into the second half. At the 67:12 mark, sophomore midfielder
Chloe Pfaff tallied an assist for Francis Marion, volleying a ball to Syragakis that was then skipped past Chowan's goalie for a 2-0 lead. Syragakis leads FMU with five goals this season.
The Hawks (1-4-0, 0-2-0) were able to trim the lead to 2-1 at 72:41 minutes as Jayda Dubeck scored.
FMU sophomore goalkeeper
Erin Grabeel played the entirety of the match, making one save. That save came on a potential tying attempt with 5:53 remaining. Chowan's Kirsten Petersen recorded 11 stops in the goal.
The Patriots also led 6-1 in corner kicks.
