Polina Gontaryk contributed a pair of wins each to help Francis Marion University blank short-handed Chowan University 7-0, Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 9) in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action.

Francis Marion, now 6-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play, will host a pair of matches this weekend. FMU will entertain Lees-McRae College for Senior Day on Friday at 1 p.m. on the Kassab Courts, and will host King University (Tenn.) on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead by earning the doubles point. FMU claimed the No.3 match by default and Seidewitz and Gontaryk swept to a 6-0 decision at No.2 doubles.

Francis Marion doubled its advantage to 2-0 with a default win at No.6 singles. Â Junior
Kim Venghaus was victorious at No.5 singles by a 6-0, 6-0 score, before senior
Gabriel Karatantcheva registered the match-clinching point with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No.1 singles.

The other FMU points came from Seidewitz winning 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) at No.2 singles, Gontaryk winning 6-1, 6-0 at No.4 singles, and graduate student
Julie Martincova rallying to win 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) at No.3 singles.
