FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University won all three doubles matches and claimed the first five singles matches to finish en route to a 6-1 win over North Greenville University, Friday afternoon (Apr. 5) in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action.
Francis Marion (5-7, 1-3) will travel to Chowan University for a 2 p.m. match on Tuesday.
In doubles play, senior
Julia Bellini Fernandes Pinto and junior
Sophia Hansen swept to a quick 6-0 win at the No.3 position. Senior
Gabriel Karatantcheva and junior
Kim Venghaus teamed to capture a 6-4 win at the top spot and clinch the doubles point for FMU. Sophomore
Chelsea Seidewitz and freshman
Polina Gontaryk were victorious 7-6 (8-6) at the No.2 spot to complete the sweep.
Gontaryk doubled the margin to 2-0 with a straight-sets 6-2, 6-1 win at No.4 singles. Pinto followed with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No.6 singles and Seidewitz rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory at the No.2 position to provide the match-clinching win.
Hansen won 6-1, 6-1 at No.5 singles and Karatantcheva won 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) at the No.1 position to account for the other two points.
