FMU earns spot in Development Baseball Semifinals

FLORENCE, SC – The Francis Marion University developmental baseball squad has earned a spot in the semifinal round of the Conference Carolinas 2024 Tournament to be held at FMU's Sparrow Stadium on Monday (Apr. 15).

Francis Marion will face Southern Wesleyan University in Monday's first semifinal game at noon and Erskine College will play Barton College in the second semifinal at 3 p.m.  Both games will be seven-inning contests.

The two winners will meet in the title game on Monday evening at 6 p.m.  That game will be a nine-inning contest.

Admission to the Griffin Athletic Complex is free for the tournament.

The game will be live streamed and live stats will also be available.  For links go to https://fmupatriots.com/sports/2023/6/21/jv-program-2020-21-schedule.aspx

Francis Marion won its preliminary site bracket last Monday with a 4-1 win over Barton and an 8-1 victory over Chowan University.
Erskine won its home site bracket, while Southern Wesleyan won the Young Harris College preliminary site. Barton advanced as the top second-place squad.

The developmental teams are composed of student-athletes that have either not competed at the varsity level in 2023-24 or have competed sparingly at the varsity level by the time of the championship.

"This is a unique concept in the NCAA that provides an opportunity for our developmental teams to compete at the conference level," Commissioner Chris Colvin said. "These one-of-a-kind events allow us to provide more of our student-athletes with a championship experience and enhance the overall competitive experience for this group of student-athletes."  The conference sponsored development championships in six sports this academic year.
