FLORENCE, SC – Barton College recorded singles wins at the No.4 and 6 positions to escape with a 5-2 road win at Francis Marion University, Wednesday afternoon (March 20) in Conference Carolinas women's tennis action.
 
Francis Marion (4-5, 0-1) will play at 21st-ranked Erskine College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
FMU sophomore Chelsea Seidewitz and freshman Polina Gontaryk swept to a quick 6-0 win at No.2 doubles, but Barton (7-2, 1-0) claimed the other two doubles matches to assume a 1-0 advantage.
 
The Bulldogs opened singles play with victories at the No.3. and 1 slots, before Seidewitz earned a hard-fought 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-0 win at No.2 singles to pull FMU within 3-1.
  
Patriot junior Sophia Hansen held on for a 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (5-7), 6-4 win at No.5 singles to close the deficit to 3-2.  However, Barton registered a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 win at No.4 singles and a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No.6 singles to end the match.
