Top of Ladder sparks Patriots to 5-2 win over Coker

Box Score HARTSVILLE, SC – After winning the doubles point, Francis Marion University got singles victories at the top four positions en route to a 5-2 road win over local-rival Coker University, Tuesday evening (Feb. 13) in non-conference men's tennis play.
 
Francis Marion ups its record to 3-1 with its third straight win.  The Patriots will play their home opener on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Augusta University.
 
FMU senior Leonel Gonzalez and junior Martin Barbera won at No.1 doubles by a 6-2 decision, but the Cobras claimed a 6-3 victory at the No.3 position.  Juniors Luis Lopez Sarasa and Austin Vienna delivered the doubles point to Francis Marion with a 7-5 win at the No.2 spot.
 
Singles play began with Patriot junior Harri Lloyd-Evans winning in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) at No.2 and FMU freshman Ben Scott being victorious 6-2, 6-4 at No.4.  Coker (0-3) trimmed the margin to 3-1 by taking the No.6 singles match, but Barbera registered the clinching point with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory at the top spot.
 
Gonzalez was responsible for the fifth FMU point by winning 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 10-8 at No.4 singles.
