BELMONT, NC – Belmont Abbey College converted a pair of penalty kicks, one in each half, to down Francis Marion University 2-1, Saturday night (Oct. 26) in Conference Carolinas men's soccer action.
Francis Marion (6-5-5, 5-3-2) will conclude its four-match road swing on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. contest at Lenoir Rhyne University.
Francis Marion outshot the Crusaders 16-11 and led in corner kicks 8-2. The start of the match was pushed back by 90 minutes due to a weather delay earlier in the evening during the preceding women's match.
Belmont Abbey took a 1-0 lead on a fourth-minute penalty kick by Sam Jordan following an FMU foul in the box.
After halftime, Patriot forward
John Osadolor scored his team-leading seventh goal at the 50:14 mark to knot the score at 1-1.
Antonio Garda was credited with an assist on the goal when he slid a short through ball to Osadolor for his successful eight-yard shot.
However, a second penalty kick by Jordan at 67:52 provided the winning margin.
FMU junior goalkeeper
Ian Milla recorded three saves in his 90 minutes in goal, while Belmont Abbey's Trent McConnaughey recorded seven saves.
McConnaughey denied FMU's final shot of the contest by
Juan Salazar Lopez at the 82:20 mark.
Osadolor led Francis Marion with five shots and
Edorta Cabieces had four, with each placing three attempts on target.
