HICKORY, NC – After surrendering a first-minute goal, Francis Marion University stormed back to capture a 2-1 road win over Lenoir-Rhyne University on goals by
Juan Salazar Lopez and
John Osadolor, Wednesday night (Oct. 30) in non-conference men's soccer play.
Francis Marion improves to 7-5-5, while the Bears drop to 5-8-0. The Patriots will conclude their regular season on Saturday with a Senior Day home match against the University of Mount Olive. Kick-off on Hartzler Field is set for 3:30 p.m.
LRU took a quick 1-0 only 23 seconds into the match on a score by Jonas Moos. FMU's Salazar Lopez tallied his fifth goal of the season to tie the score at the 16:04 mark.
Angel Cobo assisted on the equalizing score.
Osadolor registered the match-winning goal, his team-leading eighth score of the year, off an assist from
Antonio Garda at 63:03.
Junior goalkeeper
Ian Milla recorded denied shots by Lenoir-Rhyen in the 65th and 86th minutes to preserve the win.
Milla finished with five saves, while his counterpart Cathal Carney recorded eight saves for LRU.
FMU outshot Lenoir-Rhyne 18-9 and led 7-2 in corner kicks. Salazar Lopez and
Edorta Cabieces led the Patriots with four shots apiece, while Osadolor and Garda attempted three each.
