Mario Buelga scored the match's only goal in the 72nd minute and junior
Ian Milla manned the goal for the Patriots as FMU blanked Barton College 1-0, Wednesday night (Oct. 23) in Conference Carolina men's soccer action.
Francis Marion improves to 6-4-5 overall and 5-2-2 in conference play. The Patriots continue to sit atop the East Division standings.
FMU will play at Belmont Abbey College on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Francis Marion outshot Barton 19-8 and led 5-1 in corner kicks. Milla only had to make one save as the Patriot defense held the Bulldogs to one shot on goal.
Buelga's goal, his fifth of the season, came at 71:42 when his first attempt was blocked by Barton goalkeeper Steingrimur Gunnarsson but the ball ricocheted back off Buelga and into the goal.
Nursing the 1-0 advantage, FMU held Barton to one lone shot (it was high) in the final 28 minutes.
Buelga led FMU with six shots, three of which were on frame.
