Patriot Men fall 1-0 on second-half score

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA – Despite dominating the stats sheet, Francis Marion University dropped a 1-0 decision to Emmanuel University (Ga.) on a goal in the 75th minute, Saturday afternoon (Oct. 19) in Conference Carolinas men's soccer play.
 
Francis Marion (5-4-5, 4-2-2) will continue its four-match road swing by playing at Barton College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
 
Emmanuel's Matt Fitzer accounted for the contest's lone score at the 74:29 mark.
 
The Patriots outshot the Lions 19-7 and held a commanding 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
 
Forward John Osadolor led FMU with four shots, while midfielder Mario Buelga and Hallvard Boehn had three apiece.
 
FMU junior goalkeeper Ian Milla registered one save, while Natxo Faus had eight stops for Emmanuel.
 
In the scoreless first half, FMU forward Edorta Cabieces, Osadolor, and midfielder Antonio Garda recorded shots on goal that forced saves by Faus in the 17th, 18th, and 41st minutes respectively.
 
In the 57th minute, Osadolor had two opportunities to put the Patriots on top, but his shots were denied in front of the goal by a Lions defender and by Faus in a span of 19 seconds.
 
Following the Lions' score, FMU forward Andre Sabino and Buelga put shots on frame that were stopped by Faus in the 78th and 79th minutes.  Neither team attempted a shot over the final five minutes.
