Faggarts’s career-high 15 kills pace FMU to win

FLORENCE, SC – Sophomore opposite side hitter Camryn Faggart pounded out a career-high 15 kills with a .306 hitting percentage to drive Francis Marion University to a four-set win (25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21) over Young Harris College, Friday night (Oct. 18) in Conference Carolinas volleyball action.
 
Francis Marion wins its fourth straight conference match to improve to 5-3 in league play.  The Patriots will celebrate their annual Dig Pink Match to raise funds for and awareness of breast cancer on Saturday (Oct. 19) at 2 p.m. against conference newcomer Shorter University.
 
Faggart also registered four blocks, while posting her first career match with double-digit kills.
 
FMU senior Kara Walker posted her eighth double-double of the season, and fourth in the last six matches, with 14 kills and 20 digs.  She also served a team-high three aces.  Junior Caroline Lucas added 13 kills with a .370 hitting percentage and sophomore Chaney Barth also tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs.
 
Junior setter Mya Mendoza dished out a season-high 48 assists and dug up 13 balls.  Defensively, libero Katie Floyd and junior backrow specialist Andrea Delcher recorded 20 and 14 digs respectively.
 
Nicole Klucharich led Young Harris (2-9, 2-6) with 15 kills.  The Mountain Lions are coached by 2002 FMU graduate and former volleyball player Jenny Michael.
 
Francis Marion claimed the opening set by finishing with a 9-4 spurt.  Young Harris held off a late Patriot rally to even the match in set No.2.
 
FMU scored the final three points in the third set on a trio of Mountain Lion miscues, and closed out the fourth and final set with a 7-2 run.  The match featured 25 ties and 13 lead changes.
