SPARTANBURG, SC – Junior setter
Mya Mendoza dished out 29 assists, served three aces, and added two blocks to lead Francis Marion University to a sweep of Converse University 25-22, 25-20, 25-16, Friday night (Oct. 11) in Conference Carolinas volleyball action.
Francis Marion will play at North Greenville University on Saturday at 11 a.m., in a match that was earlier postponed by Hurricane Helene.
Sophomore
Chaney Barth led FMU with nine kills, while junior
Caroline Lucas contributed eight kills, four blocks, and two aces. Senior
Kara Walker added seven kills and eight digs.
Junior libero
Katie Floyd led the FMU defense with 18 digs, while also serving a pair of aces.
Noemia Chiacchio led Converse (9-4, 3-1) with 10 kills and nine digs.
In the opening set, FMU rallied from a 16-10 deficit to claim a 22-21 lead, en route to the 25-22 win. The rally was capped by a 7-1 run to end the set. In the second game, the Patriots hit .314 as a team with only two attack errors as FMU claimed a 25-20 win.
In the third set, Francis Marion took advantage of some Converse attacking errors and raced to a 5-1 lead and were never seriously threatened.
