Sandsharks defeat Patriots to end tourney

FLORENCE, SC – USC Beaufort blanked Francis Marion University 10-0, Monday evening (Feb. 13) in the final game of the 2023 Pepsi Invitational Baseball Tournament.
 
Francis Marion (3-4) will play a non-conference contest at USC Aiken on Wednesday at 4 p.m., before returning home to open Conference Carolinas play with a three-game series against Chowan University on Feb. 18-19.
 
Left fielder Tanner Wakefield led FMU at the plate against the Sandsharks (3-5) with a 2-for-4 performance from the lead-off spot.
 
Patriot junior left-hander Chas DeBruhl, the first of six FMU pitchers, took the loss and saw his record drop to 1-1.
 
USCB junior righty Blaize Minick (1-1) allowed only two hits over five shutout innings, while fanning five.  Sophomore southpaw Cam Dimidjian finished up with three hitless frames to earn his first save.
 
The Sandsharks scored three times in each of the second, fourth, and fifth frames and plated a single tally in the eighth.  Designated hitter Aiden Driscoll-Sadus led the way with two hits and two runs scored.
