FLORENCE, SC – Despite singles wins by sophomore Hermon Mikael and freshman Camryn Cassetori, the Francis Marion University women's tennis team dropped its 2021 season opener by a 4-2 count to Bluefield State College, Saturday afternoon (Feb. 6) in the fourth-annual City of Florence College Invitational Tournament.  The two-event is being held at the Dr. Eddie Floyd/City of Florence Tennis Center.
 
Francis Marion will play Augusta University (1-1) on Sunday at 10 a.m. in the tournament's fifth-place match.
 
Bluefield State earned the doubles point with victories at spots No. 2 and 3, while Mikael and freshman Viktoria Leth were leading 5-2 at the No.1 position when play halted.
 
Mikael claimed a 6-1, 6-3 singles victory at the No.2 position and Cassetori won 6-3, 6-3 at the No.5 spot to draw FMU to within 3-2.  However, the Blues registered a straight-sets win at No.1 singles to close out the match.  Leth was leading in the only other singles match (No. 3) that was left unfinished.
