FLORENCE, SC – Senior left fielder Joe Mason hit a pair of home runs, the second of which proved to be the game-winner in the 10th inning, as the University of Mount Olive edged Francis Marion University 10-9, Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 5) in non-conference baseball play.

FMU will host Limestone College for a two-game series this weekend, consisting of singles games on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.

A trio of Patriots rapped out two hits apiece: sophomore right fielder Tanner Wakefield, junior first baseman Tyler Mangum, and junior third baseman Todd Mattox.  Mattox also drove in a run. 

The Patriots scored three runs in the bottom of the first frame on four hits to go up 3-0.  The Trojans scored twice in the third and five times in the fifth to go on top 7-3.

FMU junior shortstop Sam Stonskas delivered a two-run single in the sixth inning as the Patriots erupted for five runs and rallied to take an 8-7 lead.

Patriot senior right-hander Christian Umphlett (0-1) pitched the final four innings and took the loss.  The Charlotte native did tie the team career record for most relief appearances of 59 set by Zach Farry in 2007-08.

Mason finished with three hits and six runs batted in.  UMO senior righty Jake Isbell earned the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
