Box Score SALISBURY, NC – After dropping the doubles point, Francis Marion University rallied with four singles victories to claim a 4-2 road win over Catawba College, Friday (Feb. 28) in men's tennis action.
Francis Marion improves to 3-2 and will stay in Salisbury, N.C., to face Bluefield State College on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Catawba's Johnson Tennis Center.
Catawba took a 1-0 lead with wins at doubles spots No.1 and 3.
Patriot junior Paul Meuwissen opened singles competition with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No.6, followed by victories from senior Mauricio Guerrero at No.4 by a 7-5, 6-4 score and from freshman Liam Day at No.2 by a 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) count. The Indians picked up the No.1 singles point to draw within 3-2, but FMU junior Matt Astell won 6-4, 6-4 at the No.5 position to clinch the match.
Day remains unbeaten (5-0) in singles play this season.
