FLORENCE, SC – Every member of the Francis Marion University volleyball team that dressed for Saturday's (Oct. 12) match recorded at least one kill as the Patriots swept past Winston-Salem State University 25-16, 25-11, 25-18 in non-conference action.

Francis Marion improves to 11-8 overall with its third consecutive victory.  FMU will play host to Catawba College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Smith University Center.

Sophomore 6-2 middle blocker Lily Walton led the Patriots with nine kills and a .333 hitting percentage.  Sophomore Alyssa Hansen added eight kills, while both junior Kayla Arthur and sophomore Adison Minor had five kills apiece.

Sophomore setter Finn Millians handed out 32 assists and dug up seven balls, while junior Courtney Abdur-Rahim tallied 15 digs, four kills, and three service aces.  Senior libero Natalie Vaughn registered a match-high 23 digs.

Freshman Sanaa Lanier paced WSSU (8-6) with five kills.

The opening set was knotted at 11-11 when a service ace by Arthur gave the Patriots the lead for good.  The margin was only three points (17-14) when Vaughn served four points in row and FMU eventually closed the set with an 8-2 spurt.

Millians served for five points, including three kills from Hansen, Francis Marion snapped a 4-4 deadlock in set two.  The lead grew to 23-9 as FMU coasted to the win with Walton posting five of her kills in that set.  In the third and final set. Millians was again at the service line as the Patriots broke a 5-5 tie with five straight points.  The FMU advantage was five at both 13-8 and 19-14, before the Patriots claimed a 25-18 decision.
