FLORENCE, SC – The nationally ranked Francis Marion University men's and women's tennis teams closed out their regular-season schedules with Peach Belt Conference victories over Young Harris College on Sunday (April 17). The 32nd-ranked FMU women won 7-2, while the 50th-ranked Patriot men swept to a 9-0 blanking of the Mountain Lions.
The FMU women finish the regular season 17-5 overall and in fifth place in the PBC with an 8-4 mark. The Patriot men improve to 14-7 overall and 5-5 in conference play. Their final seeding will be decided by other conference action on Sunday.
Both Patriot squads will play in the PBC Tournament this coming weekend (April 22-24) at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.
The Francis Marion women took a 2-1 lead with wins at No.1 and No.3 doubles. The Patriots captured five singles wins, dropping only a three-set decision at the No.5 position.
In the men's match, FMU survived three tough doubles matches to win by scores of 8-4, 8-5, and 8-5. The Patriots then swept all six singles contests, although two went to a third set (or tiebreaker).
