FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University swept all three doubles matches en route to a 6-3 victory over Division I Boston University, Tuesday afternoon (March 8) in non-conference men's tennis action.
Francis Marion climbs above the. 500 mark at 6-5 and will return to the Kassab Courts to host 33rd-ranked University of Southern Indiana on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Patriots are in the midst of a 10-match homestand. Boston University drops to 4-5.
Senior Patrick Hensley and junior Jannik Roettlingsberger capped the Patriots' doubles sweep with a marathon 9-8 win at the No.2 spot. The pair won the tie-breaker 7-3.
FMU freshman Tarass Thevenaz and junior Richard Ashforth opened singles play with wins at spots No. 5 and No.1 to accounting for the deciding points. Freshman Philipp Sluga also earned a singles win for Francis Marion with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 victory at the No.3 position.
Five of the six singles matches went to three sets.
