Chandler paces Francis Marion past Falcons 60-50

MISENHEIMER, NC – Junior Khai Chandler scored a season-high 21 points, including sinking 5-of-6 three-point attempts, to lead Francis Marion University past Pfeiffer University 60-50, Saturday afternoon (Dec. 3) in non-conference women's college basketball action.

Francis Marion ups its season mark to 4-3 as the Patriots enter their break for final exams.  FMU will return to action on Dec. 17 when its opens Peach Belt Conference action at Georgia Southwestern State University.

Chandler connected on 8-of-14 total field goal attempts and hauled down six rebounds.  Her point total was three shy of her career high.  Her three-point performance was only one miss off the Patriot single-game record for accuracy of 5-for-5 by Jennifer Puckett versus Georgia College on Jan. 27, 1996.   

FMU freshman guard Abigail Bullock came off the Patriot bench to score a career-high 12 points and grabbed five rebounds.  Senior point guard TeTe Flowers added nine points, seven assists, and six steals.

Sydni Bickford led Pfeiffer (2-2) with 17 points, while Med Pritchard scored 15.

The Patriots trailed only once in the game at 3-2.  With score tied at 5-5, Chandler hit a three-pointer to give FMU the lead for good and ignite a 17-3 run to end the quarter, which produced a 22-8 advantage.

A fast-break lay-in by Flowers gave Francis Marion a 16-point cushion at 29-13 with 6:51 left in the second quarter.  However, Pfeiffer responded with a 13-4 spurt to trim the margin to 33-26.  Bullock then hit a three-pointer to give the Patriots a 36-26 advantage at halftime.

A three-pointer by Chandler to open the third period extended the lead to 39-26, but the Falcons ran off 10 straight points to pull within 39-36 with 4:38 remaining in the third quarter.  Chandler accounted for the game's next five points to extend the Patriot lead to 44-36, and FMU led 46-39 at the end of the stanza.

After the Falcons scored the first bucket of the fourth quarter to pull within 46-41, Bullock registered six points in an 8-0 spurt that gave Francis Marion a commanding 54-41 advantage with 4:13 left.

The Patriots forced 22 Falcon turnovers and converted them into 27 points.

FMU connected on 34.4 percent of its field goal attempts, including 6-of-12 from beyond the three-point arc, and was 10-of-16 at the free throw stripe.  The Falcons shot 32.1 percent, was 8-of-20 from three-point range, and 8-of-12 at the foul line.
