FLORENCE, SC – Top-seeded and fourth-ranked Armstrong State University defeated eighth-seeded Francis Marion University 5-0, Friday afternoon (April 4) in the quarterfinal round of the 2015 Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Tournament.
The three-day event is being played at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center. Admission is free.
Francis Marion drops to 9-10 on the season and will face fifth-seeded University of North Georgia in an elimination bracket match on Saturday at noon.
In other quarterfinal matches on Friday, fourth-seeded Columbus State University beat North Georgia 5-1, third-seeded Georgia College beat sixth-seeded Young Harris College 5-0, and second-seeded Lander University beat seventh-seeded Georgia Regents University 5-0.
In the Patriots' match, Francis Marion dropped the doubles matches by scores of 8-4, 8-0, and 8-3.
In singles play, FMU was without the services of injured All-Conference performer Richard Ashforth. Ashforth is ranked 13th nationally in singles and has a 15-3 record.
Armstrong captured straight-sets singles wins at No.2 and No.4 positions to clinch the victory.
