FLORENCE, SC – The top-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University men's and women's tennis teams swept past the 10th-ranked Francis Marion University women and the 27th-ranked Patriot men by identical 9-0 scores, Wednesday afternoon (April 3) in Peach Belt Conference action on the Kassab Courts.
The short-handed Patriot women (19-2, 10-2) see their 12-match winning streak snapped by the defending NCAA Division II national champs, who improve to 20-1 and 12-0.
The Patriots were playing without the services of injured All-American Mona Blauen and injured freshman Nora Westbye.
FMU freshman Lena Specht (17-1) suffered her first singles loss of 2013 as she dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to 23rd-ranked Olga Kalodzitsa at the No.4 position.
The Patriot men fall to 12-6 overall and 3-6 in the PBC, while the Pirates improve to 17-1 and 9-0 as they look to repeat as Division II national champions.
The FMU men will play host to Concordia (N.Y.) College in non-conference action on Friday at 2 p.m., while both Francis Marion teams will hold Senior Day on Sunday when they entertain Flagler College at 11 a.m. on the Kassab Courts. Those will be the final regular-season matches for the Patriots.
