Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE, FL- Senior forward Jasmine Williams-Hayes led the Patriots with a career-high 20 points, but it was not enough as Francis Marion University fell to conference rival Flagler College 88-77 in a tough Peach Belt Conference matchup on Wednesday evening (Feb. 20).
FMU (11-11, 5-10) will continue their road trip, as they travel to Augusta, Ga., to take on Augusta State University (18-5, 11-5), Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Patriots still occupy fourth place in the PBC's East Division standings with three teams one-half game behind them.
Williams-Hayes connected on 10-of-15 shots from the floor. Senior guard Kristen Dickerson tallied 15 points, five assists, and six rebounds, while Dee Gray added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Treva Mason led the Saints (13-10, 10-7) with 16 points, on 7-of-12 shooting, and 15 rebounds.
Francis Marion committed 23 turnovers in the game which became 35 points for the Saints. The Patriots also forced 17 turnovers, but had a strong day on the floor as they shot a respectable 47 percent on 31-of-65 field goals.
Early in the game, FMU led 5-4 at the 17-minute mark, but after a three-pointer from Williesha Spencer 50 seconds later, the Saints never looked back and held the lead all the way into halftime, 42-31.
Early in the second half, FMU was able to cut the lead to six, but that was the closest the Patriots would get. A 7-0 run by Flagler quickly pushed the margin back to double figures.
The Saints led by as many as 20 points in the second half, but a late 17-4 run by FMU trimmed the deficit to six points at 78-72 after a layup by Gray with 3:38 left.
However, Francis Marion managed only one field goal in the final three minutes.
Both teams shot the ball very well after halftime with each squad scoring 46 points. The Patriots shot a very strong 54 percent from the floor, but Flagler shot 55 percent from the floor.
