Robinson scores 18 in FMU loss to #6 Pacers

Box Score

AIKEN, SC – Francis Marion University sophomore guard Briana Robinson scored a season-high 18 points coming off the bench, but a 17-4 run to open the second half enabled sixth-ranked USC Aiken to claim a 69-58 win in a tough Peach Belt Conference matchup on Saturday night (Jan. 26).

FMU (7-8, 2-7) will now take a break from PBC play to take on non-conference Morris College (2-15) on Tuesday in Sumter, S.C., at 6 p.m.

Following Robinson for FMU was junior forward Kim Roach with 12 points and nine rebounds.  Robinson also handed out six assists.

Mia Antoine led USCA (15-2, 8-2) with 16 points, on 6-of-10 shooting, and six rebounds.

Francis Marion committed 14 turnovers in the game, while forcing 15 turnovers, but had a tough day from the floor as the Patriots shot just 33 percent on 18-of-54 field goals.  FMU was 4-of-12 from behind the three-point arc and shot 18-of-28 at the free throw line.

USCA shot 45.8 percent from the field, including 5-of-11 on three-pointers, and was 10-of-14 at the charity stripe.

USCA opened the contest by taking an 8-1 lead, but FMU kept the game close going into halftime, as the Pacers led by nine points, 34-25.

As the teams started the second half, the Pacers came out strong, scoring the first five points to put the lead to 14, and eventually pushed the margin to 51-29.

The Pacers led by as many as 25 points, 62-37, with 9:30 remaining. Late in the game, the Patriots went on a 12-0 run to cut the lead to 10 (64-54) on a free throw by Tiara Gause with 2:09 left, but that was the closest FMU would get.
